“The acquisition of real-world wisdom is attained through lived experiences in the real world…it is not necessarily found in the pages of books.”
Victoria Humphries is a three times Guinness World Record holding polar adventurer, mountain climber, marathon runner, businesswoman, and author.
She prides herself on being just your average ‘normal’ woman, who happens to believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. She believes that life is full of challenges, but we have two options – step forward, or run away; be overcome by the enormity of it, or be brave and step up.
“What’s the worst that could happen? Just give it a go!”
In 1997, alongside her mother Sue, Victoria Humphries became part of the first all-female expedition to the North Pole. They faced many challenges along the way, including temperatures of -40°C, constantly shifting ice, and at even one point, they fell into the Arctic Ocean, finding themselves in a very real life or death situation. The expedition tested their resilience, their courage, and their ability to cope with a constantly changing environment.
Victoria’s keynotes are unusual in that she combines stories from her adventures and challenges, with her extensive commercial experiences, to create an inspirational and relatable story that can rise to the challenges of today’s workplace.
Avoiding complicated jargon, she focusses on helping workforces recognise that they live in a ‘non-linear’ world, instead they will go through constant change, they will fall, they will need to change direction, and they will realise they don’t have all the answers. She explains how resilience is not about being strong all the time, but about learning to pick yourself up again and try again.
When not challenging herself on mad challenges and generally being a bit bonkers, she has spent over 25 years in the education sector, as a teacher, governor, consultant, trainer, and managing director of an EdTech. She now works with global business across a range of sectors, giving keynote speeches and running resilience workshops. She aims to encourage delegates to use their own lived experiences to build their ‘resilience toolbox’.

Victoria Humphries’s talks have messages around overcoming adversity, leadership & teamwork and resilience along with encouraging curiosity, empowerment and a sense of perspective when things are tough; most importantly the talk is also full of humour and inspiration. She uses stories from her North Pole trip and other challenges to spread a message about how anyone can overcome their fears and how anyone can achieve anything – it’s all about taking one step at a time, being curious and saying yes! Her talks are deliberately jargon free and fairly informal so as to put the audience at ease and allow them to really soak up the messages that I’m giving.
