Tom Scudamore is a retired jockey who amassed over 1500 victories in his 25 year racing career with a place in the top 10 most successful jump jockeys of all time.
Scudamore’s most notable win came on Thistlecrack in the 2016 King George VI Chase at Kempton. Other notable wins include the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree in 2013, Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in 2015 and the Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in 2020 as well as ten Cheltenham Festival victories.
Following a number of episodes of concussion caused by falls and after being unseated from his horse during a race in February 2023, Tom made the decision to retire with immediate effect.
Since retiring Tom has made a smooth transition to media and broadcasting, starting at Ascot in 2023 when he was part of the ITV presentation team.
Tom has long been a familiar face in the media, contributing to TV and radio shows, as well as newspaper and magazine interviews. Sharing his memorable career, Tom provides inspiring and engaging talks and Q&As.
Tom’s first flat win was on Nordic Breeze at Warwick in July 1998.
Memorable wins during Tom’s career include the King George Chase at Kempton on Thistlecrack, the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at Newbury on Cloth Cap, the Ladbroke Hurdle on Desert Air, the Eider Chase on Nil Desperandum and the VC Casino Gold Cup riding Madison Du Berlais.
Tom is relishing the transition from saddle to trainer, as well as doing his ongoing media work. Since retiring Tom has taken over a training Eccleswall Court Stables as part of a reorganising of what has become a family business.
Formerly run by brother Michael Scudamore, the yard will act as a pre-training stables and satellite for the Scotland yard run by Tom’s partner, Dual Grand National winning trainer Lucinda Russell.
Tom is one of the best jockeys of all time, listed as the tenth most successful National Hunt jockey with over 1,500 wins under his belt.
