Lucinda Russell OBE is a leading horse trainer who has achieved phenomenal success, including two Grand National winners. In 2018, she was awarded an OBE by the Queen for her services to horse racing.
Lucinda’s first victory as a trainer was back in 1995 and, since then, she has gone on to clock up more than 900 victories. She has trained two Grand National winning horses – Corach Rambler who triumphed at Aintree in 2023 and One For Arthur in 2017.
The beautiful Kinross Scottish countryside is where Lucinda trains, alongside her partner Peter Scudamore MBE, a champion jockey with over 1600 victories in a record-breaking career.
Together they have created the most successful racing yard in the history of Scottish jump racing.
Despite not growing up in a family that had an involvement in horses, Lucinda always loved these majestic animals. She started leading ponies on the beach, giving pony rides and then entering Pony Club rallies and hunting days out.
Starting her competitive career show jumping and eventing, Lucinda rode in a total of three point-to-point races.
Lucinda’s father was involved in the whiskey business, with the Russell family buying distiller Ian Macleod & Co Ltd in 1963 and later Edinburgh Gin.
For a number of years, Lucinda worked in the family business developing her business skills. In both her horse racing and business ventures, Lucinda noticed a common theme: a lack of women in business. She has since become an advocate for women in business.
Lucinda has achieved phenomenal success on all the big stages and is one of only four women who have trained a Grand National winner.
She trained Corach Rambler to success in the 2023 Grand National and also lifted a 4th back-to-back Ultima Handicap Chase trophy at the Cheltenham Festival.
Lucinda also enjoyed recent success with Ahoy Senor winning a Grade 2 contest at Cheltenham in 2023 and at Aintree in 2022, along with wins for Brindisi Breeze who won at Cheltenham and Mighty Thunder who won the Ayr Scottish Grand National.
