In 1991, Mark Pougatch began his career at GLR as a Sports and News presenter. In addition to this, Mark also worked at LBC as a Sports Reporter. In 1992 Mark joined BBC Essex as their Sports Editor.
For BBC Radio, Mark has been the main presenter for football world cups, FA Cups and European championships, cricket Ashes tours in Australia, Olympic games, Commonwealth games, World Athletics Championships, the Grand National, Six Nations rugby, and Wimbledon tennis.
He’s also been privileged to commentate on Test Match Special.

As a television presenter, Mark has covered practically every single major sporting tournament for one broadcaster or another. He has appeared on Match of the Day (1996-2006), Football Focus (2002-12), and Final Score (2005-18), and has been a stand-in presenter for 5 Live’s Breakfast and Drivetime shows.
Over the years he has broadcast from the World Professional Darts Championship (2001-02), Wimbledon (2015), UEFA Euro Championships (2016, 2018, 2024), the FIFA World Cup (2022), Rugby World Cup (2019), and covered the boxing on Boxing On Five (2011-19) and The Big Fight Live (2017).
Alongside his presenting duties, Mark has appeared as a guest on a range of popular television shows, including Countdown (2017-20), Ainsley’s World Cup Flavours (2022), Celebrity Chase (2017-20), Celebrity Mastermind (2024), and The 1% Club (2025).
In 2012, Mark won the Sports Journalists’ Association Award for Sports Broadcaster of the Year.

Over his career, Mark has been a frequent columnist for The Times newspaper on football world cups and the Ashes, is a regular contributor in The Game and The Mail on Sunday.
In 2010, Mark published his first book, Three Lions vs The World: The Story of England at the World Cup, which looked into the history of England’s World Cup adventures.
