Jermaine Beckford’s career started at Chelsea, playing for their youth team. In 2003, he was signed to Wealdstone, playing semi-professionally alongside his day job as a windscreen fitter for the RAC. His impressive goal scoring gained a lot of attention, and at one point over 30 professional clubs were interested in signing him. After having trials with clubs including Crystal Palace, he signed to Leeds United in 2006.
His four years at Leeds were very successful, with him winning 2007’s League One Fans’ Player of the Month, and the League One Player of the Year and Football League Goal of the Year in 2008, as well as Leeds United’s Goal of the Season 2009-10.
After leaving Leeds, he spent a year at Everton, followed by two years at Leicester City, where he was loaned out to Huddersfield Town. In 2013, he moved to Bolton Wanderers and was loaned to Preston North End for the 2014-15 season. It was during a match in 2015 that his hat-trick won the club promotion to the Championship. Due to go back to Bolton permanently, he was released, and signed a full contract with Preston. His final contract was with Bury, where he stayed from 2017 to 2019.
As well as a popular club career, Jermaine played on the international stage, representing Jamaica due to his father’s lineage. At the start of 2013, he was called up to the squad for the first time for their match against Mexico, but unfortunately an injury saw him forced to sit out. He would make six appearances for Jamaica, scoring a goal in a 2013 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
In 2020, Jermaine joined up with Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis and released the podcast, Doing a Leeds, where the two men discuss the club, the players, transfer news, managers, and all other information any Leeds United fan would want.
In 2016, Jermaine – alongside his wife Laura – developed and launched a plant-based protein powder called Supernova. Together they spent more than 18 months researching and developing a collection of nutritional blends that uses advanced adaptogenic nutrition. Supernova is an organic supplement, produces a powder without the usual chemicals found in most other supplements.
The powders, which come in varieties for men, women and children, contain protein-rich ingredients that keep people fuller for longer, have high levels of prebiotics and fibre for gut support, adaptogens to reduce stress and balance hormones, medicinal mushrooms for stamina, focus and endurance.
Since launching, the product has been very successful and has been endorsed by sports people, celebrities and publications, such as Vogue.
