Matt Tebbutt initially studied geography and anthropology at Oxford, before gaining a diploma from Leiths School of Food and Wine in London.
He owned and ran The Foxhunter restaurant in Nantyderry near Usk in South Wales for over 15 years. The restaurant won several awards including the AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales, but is now leased as a pub to allow Matt time to focus on his television career.
Matt often stood in for James Martin on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen and has since become the regular host following James’ departure from the show.
Other television presenting credits including Food Unwrapped, Market Kitchen, Market Kitchen: Big Adventure, Great British Menu, Great British Food Revival, Drop Down Menu, Christmas Kitchen, and Save Money: Good Food alongside fellow Great British Speaker Susanna Reid.
In 2020, he co-hosted Daily Kitchen Life on BBC One alongside Jack Monroe in a response to issues stemming from the Covid pandemic and lockdown, offering tips and guidance to families struggling with limited resources. In 2026, he replaced Gregg Wallace as the host and judge of the 18th series of MasterChef: The Professionals.
