Helen Jenkins MBE is a Triathlon World Champion and one of Britain’s most celebrated triathletes. She represented Team GB at the Olympic Games three times and in the World Championships, as well as representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
Helen Jenkins has achieved more ITU World Triathlon Series podium finishes than any other British woman and has won the ITU world title twice.
Helen competed in the in the London 2012 Olympics and achieved what was the highest triathlon performance ever by a British woman at an Olympic Games when she finished 5th.
In the nine years from 2002 to 2010, Helen Jenkins took part in 42 ITU competitions and achieved 28 top ten positions and 14 podium finishes.
Helen Jenkins was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to Triathlon.
Helen started triathlon when she was 15. At 18, she left school to see if she could make it as an elite. It was a gamble that would pay off.
She was the British Junior Champion of the year 2003 and the Elite Champion of the year 2006, after having been the elite silver medalist of the year 2005.
In 2006, she suffered from an Achilles tendon injury and after a new start in 2007 she then experienced issues with an ongoing ankle injury. Despite this, in 2008 she won the World Championships in Vancouver and finished in 21st at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
In 2017 Helen had to have spinal fusion surgery and was told that it was highly unlikely that she would be able to return to professional racing. The fact that she did make a comeback in March 2020 with a fourth at IRONMAN 70.3 Dubai is a testament to her resilience and determination.
In 2021 Helen retired from competing in triathlons. Helen and her husband had already set up a triathlon coaching business and since retiring Helen has been able to focus more time on the business of coaching others how to complete triathlons.
