Crystelle’s journey into the culinary world began somewhat unexpectedly in 2018 when she volunteered to bake and decorate a birthday cake for one of her sisters – a challenge that ignited a passion she hadn’t fully realised before. With no formal training, she immersed herself in baking, quickly developing a flair for balancing bold, global flavours with visually striking presentations.
She drew inspiration from her Goan-Portuguese heritage and the diverse cuisines she had experienced during her language studies abroad. What began as a personal hobby soon became a creative outlet that offered a welcome contrast to her analytical role in the finance sector. Encouraged by friends and family who recognised her talent, Crystelle decided to apply for The Great British Bake Off.
Despite stiff competition, she stood out for her originality and confidence in experimenting with unusual flavour pairings and international influences. Her successful application led her to the iconic white tent, where she rapidly became a fan favourite for her vibrant personality, cultural storytelling through food, and beautifully executed bakes.
