After earning her BSc in Sociology from Bayero University, Kano, in 2004, Toju pursued further studies in the UK, completing an MA in International Design, Marketing, and Communication from The University of Huddersfield in 2010.
Toju’s professional journey began in 2010 as a Business Development and Marketing Assistant at Kajans Women’s Enterprise. She then advanced her marketing career with roles at Bargainz Central in 2011, followed by positions at TechEnergy Corp and TBG Learning in 2012.
In 2013, Toju took a significant step in her career by joining Google as a Dynamic Ads Specialist. Over the years, she expanded her expertise at the tech giant, moving into roles such as Shopping Specialist, Hotel Ads Specialist, and Product Lead. Her dedication and skill eventually led her to her role as a Programme Manager on Responsible AI at Google, where she focused on integrating ethical AI practices into the company’s products and research.
Toju is also the visionary founder of Diverse AI, a community-focused organisation dedicated to empowering underrepresented groups and fostering diversity and inclusion within the AI sector. Her commitment to advancing AI representation inspired the creation of Diverse AI, which operates through three core activities: Education, Research, and Events.
These initiatives are designed to support individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in upskilling, entering the AI field, and building a strong sense of community with others who share their passion.

The mission of Bedrock AI will be to democratise and develop responsible AI, the development of responsible AI tooling and infrastructure, making AI technologies accessible, safe, trustworthy and beneficial.
In 2023, Toju published Building Responsible AI Algorithms. This comprehensive guide introduces a Responsible AI framework, offering practical advice on applying ethical AI practices throughout the machine learning life cycle – from problem definition to deployment.
The book has gained international acclaim, being adopted by universities worldwide, including the University of Pavia in Italy, as essential reading.
Toju is currently working on her second book, which will delve into AI regulation, governance, risk taxonomies, and real-world case studies. She is also leading pioneering research focused on addressing human rights violations associated with AI technologies in collaboration with academia and industry experts.
