He has also won the Monaco Red Cross, The Golden Nymph Award at The Monte Carlo Television Festival, the Radio & Television Industry Club Award for BBC Personality of the Year, The Golden Rose at the Monteux Television Festival and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards.
Lenny first appeared on British television as an impressionist in the 1970s on the T.V talent show New Faces. With his comedic genius, Lenny featured on TISWAS, Three of a Kind and Hope & Glory and the self-titled The Lenny Henry Show and Lenny Henry in Pieces and Chef!
Lenny worked for three years as a DJ on BBC Radio 1 and featured on BBC Radio 4, starring in the comedy Rudy’s Rare Records and presenting the series Lenny and Will.
Despite making his name in comedy, Lenny has also taken on some more serious acting roles, making his West End debut in the role of Othello in the Northern Broadsides production at the Trafalgar Studios.
His portrayal won him critical acclaim and the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Newcomer. Lenny is currently set to play the lead in an adaptation of Brecht’s The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui in another stage adaptation.
His acting credentials also include a key role in the third series of the hit ITV show Broadchurch, alongside David Tennant and Olivia Colman.
He has completed many sell-out live stand-up tours in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
