Sam Quek MBE is a globally-known hockey player who was part of the Team GB squad who won an Olympic Gold Medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
She has since become an in-demand TV presenter, pundit, and commentator for the BBC, and within the corporate sphere, where she is also a popular sporting speaker.
Sam took part in the 20th anniversary series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, partnering with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, surviving until week 7, where she lost in the dance-off to Gladiator Montell Douglas and her partner Johannes Radebe.
In 2017, Sam was named an MBE for her services to hockey.

Sam Quek MBE’s love of hockey started when she was just a child, selected to play for the Wirral County Under-12 team – and then went on to win the tournament.
She soon burst onto the international senior stage, and played as a defender for the England and Great Britain teams as number 13. She was part of the team that won the girl’s under-18 Four Nations Invitational Tournament in 2005, won gold at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, and finished as runners-up at the 2006 Women’s EuroHockey Junior Championship.
She won her first senior cap for Great Britain in 2007 when she was just 19; she would go on to make her first England debut the following year. She went on to play at various tournaments, including the Women’s EuroHockey Nations Championship, the Women’s Hockey World Cup, the European Championships, and the Commonwealth Games.
But Sam’s biggest win came at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when they defeated the Netherlands in the final on penalties after a 3-3 draw, winning the first women’s hockey gold medal in the Olympics for Team GB
Over the course of her international career, Sam won 125 caps for the England and Great Britain women’s hockey teams.

Since retiring from professional hockey, Sam has become an in-demand sporting TV and radio broadcaster, building an impressive presenting portfolio on Channel 5, TNT Sports, LFC TV, Sky Sports, and BBC 5, covering NFL, hockey, football, and rugby.
She has appeared on a range of popular television shows, including I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (2016), Celebrity Masterchef (2020), For What It’s Worth (2016), Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (2021), Richard Osman’s House of Games (2023), and Play to the Whistle (2017).
She has presented segments for Morning Live and The One Show, became the first female captain on A Question of Sport (2021-23), and co-anchored live shows including the opening ceremony of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest and the BBC Olympic breakfast show at the Tokyo Olympics.
In 2018, Sam published her autobiography, Sam Quek: Hope and a Hockey Stick, which documented her rise to fame, and what it takes to be an elite sportsperson.
