Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1978, Roberta Lucca pursued a degree in computer science at PUC University in Rio de Janeiro. She furthered her education with two MBAs in management and marketing from COPPEAD Business School. Her early professional journey included roles in product and innovation at prominent companies such as TV Globo, Brazil’s second-largest commercial TV network, and Nokia’s luxury brand Vertu.
In 2010, Lucca co-founded Bossa Studios, a British video game developer known for its innovative and quirky games. Under her leadership, Bossa Studios released several successful titles, including the BAFTA-winning Monstermind, Surgeon Simulator, and I Am Bread. The company secured $11.4 million in funding in 2017, marking a significant milestone in its growth.
Beyond Bossa Studios, Lucca ventured into the fashion-tech space by founding WonderLuk, an online marketplace offering on-demand 3D-printed fashion accessories and jewelry. She also co-founded BOLDR, an AI-assisted advisor designed to help individuals build self-confidence.
As well as starting up her own companies, she is a prolific investor in a wide range of businesses, including digital services Beautystack, Dent Reality, Quench, Xip, Cosmos Video, Electric Noir Studios, Rosecut and Katch; health and wellness providers The Joy Club, Heights, Fertility Circle and Gwella; home and entertainment brands Life Supplies, Cocoli and Loveshark; and, space exploration companies Gama.
In 2022, she was a judge and angel investor on BBC One’s The Apprentice, judging the contestants in a weekly task to build, brand and promote a video game. Most recently, Roberta has been a mentor and judge at the new Amazon Prime UK/US TV show Ready Set StartUP.
