After winning a place on the BBC’s prestigious Trainee Reporter Scheme as a teenager, Phil Williams went on to broadcast in local radio, before joining Radio One’s Newsbeat in 1998, as a reporter and newsreader.
He was soon poached by 5 Live to become their Entertainment Correspondent, where he interviewed anyone who’s anyone in showbiz. In 2002, the Rolling Stones granted Phil their only UK Radio interview that year. His liver still bears the scars of an afternoon with Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie.
Phil Williams is now a full-time presenter at 5 Live; he’s also reported for BBC One’s Breakfast News, and his journalism and broadcasting skills are now putting him in demand in the public speaking sector, where he’s hosted The Guardian Music Radio Conference and presented sessions at the Industry’s annual Radio Festival.
