A household name for over three decades, Michaela Strachan is one of Britain’s most beloved broadcasters.
Recently, she made headlines as the oldest contestant ever to reach the final of Dancing on Ice. At nearly 60, Michaela skated her way into the hearts of millions, proudly stating she “did it for the older women”, once again proving that age is no barrier to challenge and personal growth.
Michaela’s enduring legacy is most evident in her work in wildlife broadcasting. She co-presented The Really Wild Show (1993-2006), fostering a love for wildlife among children and families. Since 2011, she has been a central figure on BBC’s Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and Winterwatch series, bringing the wonders of the British wildlife into homes.
Her versatility extends to programmes including Countryfile, Great British Ghosts, and One Man and His Dog. In 2023, she co-presented Ice Age: A Frozen World with fellow Great British Speaker Steve Backshall, and in 2022 she led Extreme Conservation projects in the Maldives and Türkiye for BBC World News.
She is now a sought-after speaker and host, known for her engaging storytelling and infectious enthusiasm. With a career spanning nearly 40 years, Michaela Strachan has appeared across a wide range of television shows – from children’s morning programmes and pop culture to wildlife documentaries – collecting multiple BAFTAs along the way.
A true trailblazer, she has consistently broken new ground, embraced change, and challenged convention. All of this she has achieved while also navigating the demands and joys of being a mother.
From her 1986 debut on the children’s breakfast show The Wide-Awake Club to co-hosting the cult late-night TV show The Hitman and Her alongside Pete Waterman in 1988, Michaela’s career has flourished — her warm humour and natural charisma quickly cementing her popularity with audiences. She went on to spend 15 years presenting the BBC’s The Really Wild Show and a decade on Countryfile, becoming a household name and a trusted voice in wildlife and rural programming. Her work has also extended across a range of broadcasters, including National Geographic, Animal Planet, and ITV, among others.
For the past 12 years, Michaela has co-presented the hugely popular BBC ‘Watches’ series: Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and Winterwatch. One of the Britain’s most popular shows, the series will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025.

In 2014, Michaela Strachan’s cancer diagnosis was made as part of her routine mammogram. Subsequently, she underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
In June 2024, she appeared on BBC One’s Morning Live, discussing body image after cancer treatment. She shared her personal experience of learning to embrace her scars following a double mastectomy, hoping to encourage others on their cancer journeys .
Additionally, Michaela serves as an ambassador for Breast Cancer Now, a role she took on in 2014 after her diagnosis. She actively promotes the importance of regular mammograms and early detection, emphasising that early diagnosis significantly increases survival chances.

The event went really well thank you – especially due to Michaela’s involvement – she was fabulous! From arriving promptly (5 mins early, to be exact)… to her thoroughly engaging and entertaining talk… to staying far longer than we hoped, joining team activities around the zoo, flitting from one group to another injecting energy and motivation… to keeping the finale running smoothly with cheery patter and handing out medals and prizes (what a bonus!)… the positive feedback started arriving in my inbox before we’d even finished the load-out that night!
