Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s media career started in 1988, when he worked on the BBC’s discussion programme Open to Qustion, and the youth current-affairs show Reportage.
He has since presented on BBC2’s Asian current affairs programmes East and Network East, and children’s news programme Newsround (1991-94).
Best known for appearing on Channel 4, he joined the station in 1998 and is now the programme’s second-longest serving presenter, behind Jon Snow. He was the main presenter of the Channel 4 News at Noon between 2003 and 2009.
He was nominated for a Royal Television Society Journalism Award in 2010 and 2014.
Outside of his newscasting, he has hosted Channel 4’s coverage of the 2012 Paralympics, 2014 Winter Paralympics, and the reburial of King Richard III. He has also presented The TV Show, The Operation: Surgery Live, The Event – How Racist Are You, The Autopsy, The Exorcism, Number One, and Going Cold Turkey.
In his capacity of a newsreader, Krishnan has been involved in an array of political programmes, including moderating the first debate between the Chancellor of the Exchequer and his counterparts in the 2010 General Election on Ask the Chancellors.

In 2011, Krishnan became Channel 4’s ambassador for the foreign affairs programme Unreported World, which has seen him front documentaries in Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, Iraq, South Africa, and Yemen.
He is a proficient interviewer, and has sat down with the likes of Jim Devine, Quentin Tarantino, Richard Ayoade, and Robert Downey Jr.
His popular personality has made him a fan favourite on a range of television shows, including The F Word, The News Quiz, and Taskmaster. In 2023, Krishnan appeared as a contestant on the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing. Paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley, they were the seventh couple to be eliminated.
Krishnan suffers from Crohn’s Disease and has a genetic heart condition.
He has worked with a number of charities, including Duchenne UK – he even founded the Duchenne Dash, a 24-hour cycle ride from London to Paris. In 2018 he was appointed to the Board of Trustees at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, a position he was reappointed for in 2021.
