Faye Barker first entered the world of broadcasting when she was 21, starting as a runner for CNBC and then assistant producer, where she would write and produce their business news.
However, her real love lay in front of the camera. After her shifts came to an end, she could often be found in an empty studio practising reading the news. These skills were spotted once she moved over to ITN, starting as a production journalist before making her on-screen debut with 5 News at the age of 24.
She has since reported for a number of channels on high-profile programmes, including ITV Yorkshire’s regional news programme Calendar (2001), ITV’s Package Holiday Undercover – for which she travelled the world exposing bad hotels – and ITV’s documentary series St Jimmys, for which she narrated. She has also covered hard-hitting news stories, including the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, unrest in the Middle East and concerns about taxi safety. Across her work for channels such as ITV and Sky, Faye has interviewed politician Michael Heseltine, athlete Mo Farah and actor Russell Crowe.
She has made cameo appearances in several movies and television programmes, including Whistleblowers (2007), Survivor (2015), Weekender (2011), Hampstead (2016) and Four Weddings and a Funeral (2019).
Faye is a popular choice to host large events, provide keynote speeches, host debates and present at award shows. She has presented for Randstad, the English National Ballet School, Totaljobs and Middlesex University, and at the International Broadcasting Convention in 2006.
Faye likes to use her platform to raise awareness for multiple charities. In 2018, Faye teamed up with over 20 celebrities – including presenter Laura Tobin, quizzer Anne Hegerty, actors Kara Tointon and Lionel Blair, and auctioneer Charlie Ross – to release a Christmas single, raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. She would team up with them again – this time alongside the likes of singer Sam Bailey, presenter Richard Arnold and sportsman Frank Bruno – raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society and Action for Children. Both singles would go on to reach number two in the charts.
