Now a familiar face on our TV screens, Josie Gibson’s first foray into the public eye was on the 11th series of Big Brother in 2010, which she won with over 77% of the public vote, the highest percentage out of any other series. Just 18 months later, she re-entered the house for Ultimate Big Brother but left after three days.
Soon after, she became a showbusiness reporter for Channel 5 shows OK! TV and for Big Brother’s Bit on the Side (2011), as well as an animal reporter for Live With... Since 2012, Josie has had a regular column, “Just Josie” in Now magazine where she discusses topics from that week’s show business world, current affairs, and her own life.
She has been a popular guest star on shows including The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, Cooking With the Stars, Would I Lie to You?, Loose Women, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars, Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, Good Morning Britain, The Wheel, Blankety Blank, The Jump, The Wright Stuff, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, Celebrity Juice, Ultimate Big Brother and 8 Out of 10 Cats.
In 2023, she starred in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, where she finished in fourth place as the last woman standing.
As well as being a successful TV presenter, Josie likes to use her fame to bring the spotlight on important issues, including body positivity and inclusivity.
She is a big personality on social media, with a combined following of over 770,000, and she aims to use this platform to bring awareness to subjects close to her heart.
One topic she has been particularly passionate about is that of body positivity. Due to her fame, Josie is often followed by photographers wanting to get that perfect photo for whatever publication will pay the highest. This meant that when they saw her on the beach, 16 stone, size 20 and ‘daring’ to wear a bikini, she was suddenly hounded by an influx of vicious taunts. With her mental health being delicate, she considered ending her life. But over the years, she has come to accept the way she looks and hopes that she can inspire other girls and women when it comes to their body shape and size.
In 2019, she gave a speech at Body Confidence Live where she discussed her past battles with her body and her fluctuating weight, and inspired the audience with her new and improved body positivity.
She also spoke out about the struggles experienced by deaf people during the pandemic. Her brother Harry is deaf, and she witnessed him struggling to communicate with people wearing face masks. Whilst the masks were put in to help curb the spread of the virus, Josie believes the “deaf community [was] forgotten about”, as it meant people who rely on lipreading were unable to communicate.
Josie’s popularity means she is often asked to work with top brands including Babybel, Cawston Press, Curvissa, Foreo UK, Next, Pampers, Pearlys, Regatta, Samsung, Triumph, Very, and WW.
