James Barnes-Miller was born with a upper limb disability, having an incomplete right arm. But this didn’t seem to incapacitate him when it came to sport. He enjoyed surfing and skateboarding around his hometown of Tunbridge Wells. But it wasn’t until he was on holiday in Bulgaria that he tried snowboarding for the first time, instantly falling in love with it.
A few years later, he met Owen Pick, another para snowboarder, who encouraged James to contact the British Parasnowsport team. He has since gone on to be a key member of Team GB, and has competed in the World Championships, winning one silver and two bronze medals in the snowboard cross, dual banked slalom, and team events.
When not competing, he works for the Ministry of Defence as a role-play actor, helping British soldiers to train in first aid and field surgery.
