Hayley Mulenda is one of the most inspiring young voices in the UK currently. An established keynote speaker, consultant, and change agent, Hayley has worked all over the world, from the Middle East to North America and Africa. With over 180,000 social media followers, Hayley has her finger firmly on the pulse when it comes to helping Gen Z and millennials with their mental health and well-being.
Named as one of Black Business Show X HSBC’s ‘Top 25 Black Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2024’, Hayley’s story is not short of difficulties.
After nearly taking her life when she was 18 years old, she had a profound realisation about the growing impact that mental health issues are having on millennials. This experience ignited her passion to make a difference to others. Her personal journey and insights have made her a credible advocate and speaker for mental health and wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion.
Hayley has spoken on stages such as Wembley Arena, and counts KFC, KPMG, META, Microsoft, Unilever, Wagamama amongst her clients. On top of this, she serves on the board of Wagamama to help the company engage young people from diverse backgrounds and is a Governor at St Angela’s Ursuline School.

Even before becoming a keynote speaker, Hayley Mulenda was interested in helping others. She once stook for the Young Mayor Candidate in the London Borough of Newham (finishing 3rd out of 54), and then a Youth Councillor for the Borough. In 2017 she worked as a Camp Counsellor at the YMCA of Greater New York, where she worked with over 800 children from as far and white as America, China, and Puerto Rico. She was the founder and chief executive of ‘Building You Masterclass’, a personal development course to help you do better and be better; she is also an Ambassador for One Young World, and the President of the Youth Advisory Board for Migrant Leaders.
Sadly, it has taken Hayley a while to get to this stage of helping others. For when she was 18, she nearly took her own life, after being overwhelmed by the inability to balance business, studying, and her personal life. It was at that moment she realised how mental health issues are increasingly affecting her generation, and really wanted to do something about it.
In 2016 she published her award-winning book, The ABCs to Student Success, which contained tips and strategies on how to sustain a healthy mental wellbeing when faced with a range of trials and tribulations. She has also appeared on Grace Magazine, and been featured on London Live, the BBC, Channel 4, The Voice Nes, NBS, NTV, and Daily Monitor Uganda. She also hosts the podcast The Building You Podcast, focussing on “building you, whilst you focus on building your empire”.
Hayley runs a popular “Speak Up Course”, aimed at teaching people the secrets to public speaking, personal branding, and business. It is split into three modules:
1. The Art of Public Speaking: create a clear and compelling message, understand what kind of speaker you are, and learn how to engage with audiences.
2. The Science Behind Public Speaking: understand how to build a social media following, how to build a mailing list, how to create viral content, and how to build a globally recognised brand.
3. The Maths Behind Public Speaking: learn how to get paid speaking engagements and partnerships, learn how to price your engagements, and learn how to negotiate.
Hayley is an inspirational, motivational, and powerful speaker; her work has impacted people from all over the world, and she often consults senior leaders at FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies. Her ability to engage and engage audience members of any age, race, gender or ethnicity, is recognised as rare and admirable, and that’s what sets her apart from the rest. Real Models, Not Role Models: Hayley discusses the importance of authenticity and vulnerability in leadership, particularly in a world dominated by social media where curated images can often overshadow reality. In fostering better cohesion with Gen Z and Millennial workforces, Hayley reiterates her belief that leaders don’t need to be traditional role models, but should focus on being real models, especially in an environment where superficiality can often prevail.
Human Beings: In this keynote, Hayley emphasises the importance of prioritising personal happiness and wellbeing, particularly for leaders who are under a lot of professional pressure. She challenges the common thought is that one more lose oneself to better their profession. But instead, Hayley advocates for a balance between achievement and fulfilment. She reminds leaders that people connect with them because of who they are – human beings – not just what they do. She provides strategies for maintaining authenticity, healthy mental well-being, and genuine fulfilment while navigating an intense work environment.
Building Bridges, Not Walls: Hayley emphasises the importance of genuine connection and support in the workplace, especially as the after-effects of the Covid pandemic continue to impact work culture. It reminds leaders that the best present they can give their teams is their presence, to show up authentically and to engage with their workforce on a meaningful level. She explores strategies for creating a work culture where Gen Z and Millennials feel celebrated, not just tolerated.
Be Visible: The Power of Personal Branding: In this keynote, Hayley shares her 12-year journey of building her personal brand, which has now grown into a global community of over half a million people. Through online views and impactful contact, she has turned visibility into influence, income, and impact. She has spoken on some of the world’s greatest stages and secured top clients, all by mastering the art of being visible.
