Emma Jones attended Sheffield Hallam University, where she studied journalism. After a year out to save, she did an MA in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Staffordshire.

Emma Jones | Early Career

While studying for her Masters, Emma Jones gained valuable hands-on experience through placements at Channel 5 in London and Key 103 in Manchester, both of which later offered her freelance roles.

However, Emma soon discovered that covering hard news wasn’t her calling. Reflecting on one particularly difficult assignment involving a family tragedy, she realised that her emotional connection with such stories made reporting hard news personally challenging. This led her to pursue a different direction in media, focusing more on presenting.

She then found her entry into radio by producing traffic and travel segments for drive-time and breakfast radio shows, a role that involved coordinating nine reports daily. This marked her first significant role in the industry.

Emma Jones | Growing Reputation

After a year working in radio, an opportunity opened up at Viking FM in Hull, where Emma impressed station managers with a demo and was hired as a presenter.

During her two years with Viking FM, her engaging style caught the attention of Leeds United, who reached out and encouraged her to audition for a presenting role on their digital platform, LUTV. This audition launched her into sports broadcasting, connecting her with an entirely new audience through Leeds United’s channel and laying the foundation for her expanding career in sports media.

In 2018, Emma Jones started contributing to William Hill’s sports coverage and, the following year, freelanced on Mola TV, where she continued to present various sports and entertainment content.

In 2021, she joined Signal 21, co-hosting their breakfast-time radio show. With her reputation growing, she added BBC Radio to her list of employers as a presenter in 2021. She hosted segments that covered a range of sports and news topics, showcasing her ability to work across multiple platforms simultaneously​.

Emma’s versatility has also led her to cover Rugby League; in 2022, she joined Premier Sports to present their Rugby League Championship coverage, broadening her engagement with different sports audiences.

She took on this role in 2023, partnering with Planet Sport’s betting division to create content and share insights about football throughout the season.
