COMEDY
Ed Byrne’s stand-up career began when he was studying at Strathclyde University, where he was the MC at various student events. It wouldn’t be long before Ed dropped out of his studies and started up a small comedy club in Glasgow, before moving it to London.
His career went from strength to strength, and was nominated for a Perrier Award in 1998, performed at some of the biggest selling shows at Edinburgh Fringe, has played at Dublin’s Gaiety and Olympia theatres, as well as in London’s West End, and has released several DVDs of his tours.
But it is not just in the UK he has excelled; Ed has developed a huge following overseas, and has performed as far and wide as New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Bermuda, Belgium, Australia, Norway, and Switzerland. He has also made appearances at the Just For Laughs Festival in Canada, at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, and performed on NBC’s Late Night With Conan O’Brien an impressive five times.
On top of his comedy work, Ed is also an actor, and has appeared in Father Ted and provided the voice for a character in My Freaky Family. he has also provided the voice for some of Carphone Warehouse’s adverts.

Ed is now a regular fixture on television and radio, and has appeared on BBC radio shows such as What’s So Funny, and The Unbelievable Truth.
His television highlights include being a guest on Between the Covers (2023), Saturday Kitchen (2023), QI (2019-2023), Mock the Week (2006-2022), Pilgrimage (2018), Dara and Ed’s Great Big Adventure (2015), and The Graham Norton Show (2008-2013). Ed has also presented pieces for The One Show and Countryfile. He has also been a contestant on The Weakest Link (2023), Celebrity Eggheads (2023), The Hit List (2022), Richard Osman’s House of Games (2021), Celebrity Best Home Cook (2021), All Star Family Fortunes (2012), and The Great Comic Relief Bake Off (2013).
Ed has his own podcast entitled Ed Venturing, where guests have included Rhod Gilbert, Desiree Burch, Stuart Maconie, and Hal Cruttenden. Since 2011 Ed has written a column for the hillwalking magazine TGO, and also provided a column in the Metro newspaper until 2012.
