Duncan Preston is a much loved British actor best known for his role in Emmerdale (1972-). Duncan has also appeared in feature films and on stage, with a career spanning over fifty years. He has also appeared in a number of Victoria Wood productions including Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV (1985-1987), as well Moving On (2009-) and Love and Marriage (2022-) alongside Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Celia Imrie.
He is also a renowned Shakespearean actor and has been involved in productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and numerous West End productions and national tours.

Duncan Preston played series regular Doug Potts on ITV’s Emmerdale (1972-), a role he returned for from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2014 to 2020.
He can also be seen in Victoria Wood productions Acorn Antiques (1985-1987) and dinner ladies (1998-2000), soap operas EastEnders (1985-), Casualty (1986-), Holby City (1999-2022) and Heartbeat (1992-2010), sitcoms Surgical Spirit (1989-1995), My Family (2000-2011) and Harry Enfield and Chums (1990-1998), and drama shows All Creatures Great and Small (1978-1990) and Midsomer Murders (1997-).
Whilst predominately a TV actor, Duncan has had some parts in a number of popular feature films including Porridge (1979), A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (1979), Milk (1999), Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? (2014) and Howl (2015).
He has been involved in several West End and nationwide tours of shows including in Macbeth for the RSC and To Kill a Mockingbird.
In 2002, Duncan was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree by the University of Bradford for his contributions as an actor.
