Courtney has recently been appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter.
Courtney Holm’s sustainability journey started when she was just 15, around the same time that scientists and politicians like Al Gore were starting to make noise about atmospheric carbon concentrations. At the time, Courtney was suffering from eco-anxiety, and it was there and then she decided to dedicate her life to sustainable development and fighting climate change.
Her education has seen her gain qualifications in Environmental Science from Paul Smith’s College, English Language and Literature from Saint Joseph’s University, an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the University of Wales, and a certificate in Strategies for Sustainability from Stanford Continuing Studies. She has also gained further certifications over the years in ornamental horticulture, ethical hacking, biomimicry, and climate resilience.
Whilst in the USA, Courtney worked for J. Franklin Styer Nurseries and Tuckahoe Nurseries Inc, and in 2005 she founded Courtney Evans Garden Design. And whilst she loved plants and horticulture, she decided now was the time to focus more on sustainable development.
Moving to the UK, she began working for 2degrees, focusing on sustainable supply chain collaboration. Courtney led the Tesco relationship that helped them develop a digital collaboration platform for over 10,000 global food producers to deploy a new sustainable procurement strategy. She also worked with Tesco’s suppliers to develop “The Knowledge Hub”, a digital collaboration platform for users to share best practices, and build efficiencies.
She has since worked for Unilever on sustainable business technology, and the Natural Environment Research Council on the digital environment. In 2021, she joined Capgemini Invent, working first as their Vice President of Sustainable Futures – where she helped achieve over £5 million worth of sales in just 18 months – and then Global Vice President of Impact and Sustainable Futures.
Courtney has contributed to a number of online and printed publications, including The Grocer, Peridot Partners, Sustainability Magazine, and The Financial Times, on carbon, women in leadership, the human side of climate change, effective collaboration, the importance of long-term thinking, and the impact measurement gap.
In 2024, Courtney founded and became the CEO of The Holm Edit, sharing practical solutions for systemic change, that require businesses and individuals to simultaneously make more sustainable choices, creating the necessary supply and demand to transition the economy.
For organisations, The Holm Edit supports with three main challenges:
Doing More By Doing Less: Strategies for Scaled Impact
Organisations struggle with scaled impact because they are doing too much. Their strategies are underpinned by large programs of initiatives and KPIs, teams spread out too thin, with an inadequate budget. The Holm Edit advises companies on how to do more by doing less; editing sustainability strategies to focus on the most impactful topics.
Bridging the Supply-Demand Gap for Sustainable Impact
Organisations are starting to shift their portfolio of products and services to be more sustainable, but they aren’t speaking directly to their clients about how they can be a part of delivering the ambition. The Holm Edit works with organisations to open up that dialogue with clients and customers.
Cultivating a Purposeful Workforce
Leaders are facing a real dilemma around purpose – employees want to work for organisations that are making a positive impact. The Holm Edit works with companies, leaders, and employees to link their personal purpose to their work, creating a united pulse around driving the organisational purpose.
