Clare Seal is a writer, speaker, financial coach and digital creator, known for her popular @myfrugalyear Instagram page.
Clare has built a community of over 115,000 people with her honest and compassionate conversations about money, mental health, motherhood and family life, tackling the topic of finance with an empathy that is often lacking.
It was not long ago that Clare was struggling financially. In 2019, she had nearly £30,000 of personal debt and it was then that she created @myfrugalyear Instagram page to anonymously document her journey out of debt.
A year later Clare had paid off £10k and after two years she made the final payment, making her debt-free for the first time in years.
Since then, she has rebuilt her relationship with money, amassing over 100,000 Instagram followers, authoring three books and writing for a number of national publications, including the Guardian and Glamour magazine.
Clare now works with both brands and individuals to address financial wellbeing and bring a new perspective to what has sometimes been a stale conversation. She has worked with Paypal, eBay, Boots and Santander to deliver campaigns and has delivered keynote talks for NatWest, Deloitte, Network Rail and Ralph Lauren.
Her empathy and compassion-focussed approach helps people to set aside their money shame and start to build confidence and connection with their finances.

Clare Seal was on maternity leave from her work as a brand manager at an interiors company and had gone into an unarranged overdraft when the realisation came that she was not in control of her finances. Following a call from her bank asking her how she was going to deal with the overdraft, she was angry with herself an realised something needed to change. It was then that she set up the @myfrugalyear Instagram account, almost as punishment for herself but largely as a source of accountability.
The account chronicled her journey to take back control of her finances, get out of debt responsibly and her story and advice struck a chord with other Millennials who had money woes. Within months she had thousands of followers.
Clare rebuilt her own relationship with money and since then has been helping others do the same. She qualified as a financial coach in 2022, being trusted by corporations like Havas to provide financial coaching for their team members each month. Clare has a full-scale employee wellbeing offering that includes one-to-one coaching, talks and workshops.
Through her online presence, she helps individuals, sharing tips, advice and little-known hacks to help people to save money, shop wisely and make good choices with their money. She doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, and offers a unique perspective on conversations that can sometimes seem stale and tired.
Clare has collaborated with brands to engage customers who have felt excluded in the past. Her empathetic approach enables brands to connect authentically with people through trusted advice, resulting in increased awareness and conversions.
She has partnered with national and global brands such as Paypal, eBay, Boots, British Gas and Santander to deliver impactful campaigns across social, press and broadcast. She has hosted events for Nationwide, and delivered keynote talks for NatWest, Deloitte, Network Rail and Ralph Lauren.
Clare has authored three books. Her first book Real Life Money is part memoir, part guide, and takes readers on a journey that can be adapted to their own pace and circumstances. It covers everything from how to negotiate repayment terms with creditors and setting realistic budgets to dealing with money anxiety.
Her second book Real Life Money: The Journal is the first planner that targets the link between emotional wellbeing and finances. The result is a practical workbook for people who need something deeper than just expense tracking and meal planning. It guides the user through the steps required to recalibrate their finances on a deeper level, helping them to prepare for difficult conversations, set achievable goals, create their own personal budget – and stay on track.
In her most recent book Five Steps to Financial Wellbeing, Clare walks readers through five straightforward, achievable steps to take to change their relationship with money for good, creating a better life.
