Charlotte Hawkins was always interested in communications and how to get a message across. Studying English Literature at the University of Manchester, followed by a Postgraduate in Broadcast Journalism from the London College of Printing.
Charlotte’s early foray into the media was at LBC Radio. It was here she was confronted with the terrible news she may have to present when she was one of the first journalists to report on the Paddington rail crash. In 2000 she moved to ITV Meridian, where she co-presented the current affairs show The Big Story, presented Britain on the Move, and The London Boat Show (2007).
She would go on to present Sunrise on Sky News from 2007 to 2014, with some time spent working for Five News in the absence of other presenters. During this time, we covered events, including the Olympics, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and various royal weddings. And her list of interviewees was no less impressive, with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Sir Elton John, Johnny Depp, Sir Paul McCartney, David Beckham, Renee Zellweger, and Matt Damon all getting the Charlotte Hawkins treatment.
She returned to ITV in 2014 as a presenter on Good Morning Britain (2014-), where she has worked as a regular broadcaster and stand-in during absences. As well as the hard-hitting news stories reported on GBM, Charlotte is the fashion reporter for ITV Racing, appearing at events like the Cheltenham Races, the York Races, and Ascot.
She has co-presented the news show with Adil Ray, Piers Morgan, Richard Madeley, and Ben Shephard as well as fellow Great British Speakers Ed Balls and Susanna Reid.
Whilst her presenting responsibilities lie with ITV, Charlotte has been seen as a guest star or host on a number of entertainment shows, including Pointless Celebrities (2011), This Morning (2014-2015), The Chase (2015), Countdown (2016), Strictly Come Dancing (2017), and Richard Osman’s House of Games (2021).
Charlotte has hosted a series on Classic FM radio called Young Classical Stars, and in 2020, she partnered with Sony Classical and released the Last, Past, and Blast podcast, which has seen her interview guests including Katherine Jenkins, Piers Morgan, Nicola Benedetti, Myleene Klass, and Alexander Armstrong. She also curated a three CD collection of classical music titled ‘Mindful Moments’.
Her passion for journalism is not solely for the television, and she is a regular contributor to several written publications, including The Mail on Sunday, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Conde Nast Traveller, The Daily Express, Radio Times, Family Traveller Magazine, and Health and Wellbeing Magazine.
Charlotte is very passionate about using her position to help others and is a patron or ambassador for several charities, including the Dog’s Trust, Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens, Ellenor Hospice, and the Motor Neurone Disease Association – particularly poignant as she lost her father to the condition in 2015.
Charlotte is now a very popular and sought-after speaker and event host, particularly around classical music. She has hosted the cinema broadcasts of Andre Rieu’s concerts on several occasions, the 2022 Classical Gala at the Royal Albert Hall, and Classic FM’s 2017 Christmas concert.
She has also hosted a range of award ceremonies, such as:
– Wards Children’s Awards
– The Family Traveller Awards
– Royal College of Midwives Awards
– Inventor AllStars Awards
– GP Bullhound Awards
– Adult Learners’ Awards
– Learning and Skills Council Awards
– Medical Futures Awards
– Kent Business Awards
Working with Charlotte is a dream. She has established a wonderful rapport with Andre [Rieu] and always delivers a fantastic interview with him for our cinema audiences around the world. Professional, engaging, natural and a delight to work with, I can’t imagine an Andre Rieu Concert for Cinemas without Charlotte.
