Charlie Dimmock’s love of gardening starts at an early age, spending time in the garden as a child – particularly at the family pond – and helping with her grandfather’s vegetable patch. She took gardening lessons whilst at junior school, and went on to have a job at a local garden centre as a teenager. She trained as an amenity horticulturalist at Winchester and in Somerset, graduating with a BTEC Diploma, and a National Technical Certificate in turf culture and sporting management. She then spent a year training at the Chelsea Physic Garden.

Her expertise in all things gardening has seen her broadcast from a number of horticultural events, such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. She has also toured her own garden theatre shows and talks up and down the country.

Since Ground Force, Charlie has become a familiar face on our television screens on a range of programmes. She competed on Blankety Blank (2002), Celebrity Masterchef (2006) and 71 Degrees North (2011); and appeared on news shows Daybreak (2011), and Granada Reports (2017). She has also featured on shows such as Loose Women (1999-2010), Saturday Brunch (2004), and Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh (2021).

She dipped her toe into the world of acting by making a cameo appearance in the soap opera Hollyoaks in 2002, acting as a special guest booked to unveil the ‘Jubilee Gardens’.

As well as presenting, Charlie is also a successful author, having written several garden books, including:

Alongside her books, she has written for many printed publications, including having her own weekly gardening column in The Mail on Sunday.

Charlie has also dipped her toes into the world of business, and in 2016 she launched her own range of gardening products with Poundland, one of the UK’s largest value retailers. Charlie was personally involved in testing the brand for its quality and practicality, stating that she joined with Poundland to make gardening more affordable to all.

Charlie uses her status to draw attention to a range of charitable endeavours, such as completing the Macmillan 4×4 UK Challenge in 2003, and has since gone on to raise over £100,000 every year for Macmillan Cancer Support. She has also been involved with charities including Dreamflight, a charity backed by British Airways for children with serious illnesses.

She was president of the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) from 2003 to 2004, and presented their annual awards ceremony that year.

Charlie is also available for voiceover work on Great British Voices
