Marvin Humes is a singer, radio DJ and television presenter who found fame in the boyband JLS, who came second place in The X Factor in 2008.
After The X Factor, the band found success with their first first two singles which both went to number one in the UK as did their debut album.
JLS won a string of MOBO awards, including Best Song and Best Newcomer in 2009, Best UK Act and Best Album the following year and in 2012 winning their fifth MOBO award for Best Video.
After a five years and 5 number one hit singles, JLS split in December 2013, but reunited in 2021 with a comeback tour. Marvin Humes and the band went on a further tour of the UK in 2023.
In the intervening years Marvin Humes established himself as a TV presenter and radio DJ, starting in 2013 presenting Capital Radio’s Friday evening programme before progressing to the Monday to Friday late show. In 2014, Humes presented The Vodafone Big Top 40 which was broadcast every Sunday on Capital, Heart and other commercial stations.
In 2023, Marvin Humes was a contestant in ITV’s 23rd series of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Marvin Humes was on TV long before The X Factor and JLS fame, appearing in Holby City from 2000-2003. When he was 14 he appeared in a children’s programme called K-Club, which helped people with computers and how they work.
Marvin returned to the TV screens in 2013, when he co-presented ITV’s This Morning with his wife Rochelle Humes, the singer from girl band The Saturdays. The couple then became regular stand-in presenters until 2015.
From 2014-2017 Marvin Humes was co-presenter on BBC One’s The Voice and from 2016, Humes has co-presented BBC’s Children in Need appeal with his wife.
Since 2019, Marvin Humes and his wife have presented The Hit List, a music-based quiz show where pairs of contestants have to name as many hit songs and artists under pressure.
In 2020 Marvin made TV history by becoming the first ever man to present on ITV’s Loose Women, an episode that also had an all-man panel. In November 2023, Marvin Humes was a contestant on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, something he said he had always wanted to do but a challenge which terrified him.
JLS have a strong commitment to charity and raising money for good causes and created The JLS Foundation which raises money for six charities: Cancer Research UK, Rays of Sunshine, Brook, Childline, BeatBullying and the MS Society.
Despite the band splitting, the foundation still continued to function and Marvin Humes along with the other members of the band remained committed to continuing the foundation.
All sales from the JLS number hit single “Love You More” went to Children In Need. The band performed at the Children In Need Rocks Manchester concert performing in 2012 and the following year Marvin and the other three band members appeared on Children In Need, singing a medley of songs on the EastEnders set.
They have helped raise money for Comic Relief, starring in comedy sketches with both Miranda Hart and James Corden. The band visited Uganda for Sport Relief in 2012 and hosted a JLS Sing for Sport Relief concert.
Aside from JLS, Marvin worked with Marie Curie charity for terminally ill cancer patients and with wife Rochelle, worked with NSPCC to raise money for children.
