Flo Headlam
Flo Headlam once worked in the charity sector, before deciding in her mid-forties to change track and enter the world of horticulture and gardening.
Flo Headlam was always passionate about gardening. Coming to the UK from the Caribbean, her parents gave her an early insight into self-sufficiency, providing her with her own garden to grow vegetables. Yet, she didn’t think this could be a job. She initially studied African Studies at the London School of Oriental and African Studies before becoming a dancer and then a two-decade career in charity work.
It was whilst studying horticulture and garden design at Capel Manor College – as well as raising a young family – that Flo was approached by BBC’s Gardeners’ World (2017-2019). This allowed her to travel around the country to meet people, all united in their love for gardening.
Flo is passionate about her craft and easily communicates this passion to others. She is friendly and down-to-earth, and it is this nature that makes her a popular presenter, event host and keynote speaker.

Leaving Gardeners’ World during the COVID-19 lockdown initially to concentrate on her own private clients, Flo Headlam was once again approached by the media, this time to join the Garden Rescue team (2022) alongside ex-Ground Force gardener Charlie Dimmock. Too good an opportunity to miss, Flo has gone on to create the winning design on numerous occasions and relishes the chance to work with different individuals.
Flo also works extensively with another Great British Speakers TV Gardener Danny Clarke.
Flo Headlam Gardening Charity Work
As well as her private gardening clients and her television work, Flo is passionate about using gardening for the greater good and is involved in several charitable projects. She is an Equity Ambassador for The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and an ambassador for The Great British Garden Festival.
Previously working in the education sector of a national charity, Flo can often be found providing talks in schools, aiming to inspire them to join the horticultural industry. She is a great advocate for the growth of community gardens, especially those that can grow and provide food for those less fortunate.

Flo Headlam is an inspiration to young women, especially women of colour, as she was the first female black presenter for Gardeners’ World. She is also passionate about the physical and mental health benefits that gardening can bring, especially to positive well-being.
