Zak Dychtwald is a strategic advisor, with expertise in China, generational change, the East and West Millennial Mindset, and global cooperation.
Born in the U.S, he moved to China after graduating from Columbia University – he is fluent in Mandarin – and now splits his time between the US and China. Whilst living in China, he got to know their young people ‘on their own turf’, realising that the China we talk about in the West is different to the new China emerging.
He is the Founder and CEO of Young China Group, a consultancy and think tank which aims to deepen the understanding between China and the rest of the world, particularly on the identity of China’s young generation on the marketplace, workplace, and international politics.
In 2018, he published Young China: How the Restless Generation Will Change Their Country and the World. The successful book examined the future of China through the lens of the generation born after 1990, exploring their views on everything from the government to money to sex.
In 2023, AmCham Shanghai (the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai) named Zak as the chair of the Future Leaders Committee. As Chair, he works alongside them to identify key issues that need developing and to lead programming for the committee.
