Toyah’s most recent acting work includes acclaimed cult Brit film Ahhhhhhhh! The film was directed by Steve Oram and starred Julian Rhind-Tutt, Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. Toyah had a cameo role in the British film In Extremis for which she and Simon Darlow co-wrote and produced the end credits song Our Hearts Still Beat.
She also plays the wife of a character played by Harvey Keitel in the film Lies We Tell, directed by Mitu Misra and co-starring Gabriel Byrne. The film received its worldwide premiere at London’s Leicester Square in September 2017.
Toyah’s also starred as Francis Meynell in the period piece Hound – The Life of the poet Francis Thompson, a new film by Chris Ward. Later in 2017, Toyah filmed To Be Someone, based on the book of the same name, the film follows the lives of many of the original characters from Quadrophenia.
Toyah Willcox Current Music Gigs
In music, Toyah’s annual concert diary is packed with summer festivals, acoustic shows and full electric gigs with her band. Her transatlantic rock band Toyah & The Humans featuring Bill Rieflin (King Crimson, REM) & Chris Wong have released three albums. Toyah’s most recent musical collaborations include vocals on the Dodson & Fogg track, Drinking From The Gun and the duet Nine Hours with Peter Coyle (Lotus Eaters).
In 2016, Toyah co-composed her first musical, for the Gods & Monsters theatre production, ‘Crime & Punishment: A Rock Musical Dostoyevsky.’
Toyah Willcox Acting Career
Toyah performed in the first ever stage adaptation of Derek Jarman’s cult film Jubilee at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre, which premiered in November 2017.
Although Willcox originally appeared as Mad in the 1978 film, she portrayed the role of Queen Elizabeth I, the narrator of the drama, for the stage. May 2018 marked the fortieth anniversary of Toyah’s incredible career.
