Sir Anthony AP McCoy OBE, commonly knowns as AP McCoy, is famed as the greatest jump jockey of all time and one of the world’s highest profile sporting personalities, winning almost every big race there is to win.
Recording 4,357 race wins during his career, Sir Anthony is remembered for his success in the 2010 Grand National, the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase & King George VI Chase. Sir Anthony dominated his sport for over two decades before retiring from riding in 2015.
All this while suffering 20 chipped teeth & facial injuries, Broken Cheekbones, Broken both shoulder blades, Broken Vertebrae, Broken Arm, Dislocated Thumb, Dislocated collarbone, Punctured Lungs (Twice), Broken Ribs (Twice), Broken Wrist, Broken Leg and Broken Ankle.
Following his retirement, Sir Anthony took to the radio as a pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live and as a co-presenter on Channel 4 but since 2017 has been part of the ITV racing team covering all big horse racing events.
Anthony AP McCoy received an MBE in 2002 and eight years later he was knighted, receiving an OBE for his services to horse racing.
Further recognition came in the way of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010; the first time a jockey had received the prestigious award. Three years later, he was named RTESports Person of the Year and in 2015 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBC.
Sir Anthony Ap McCoy has published five autobiographies: Real McCoy: My Life So Far (1999), McCoy (2003), A.P. McCoy: My Autobiography (2011) and Winner: My Racing Life (2015).
In 2013, Sir Anthony branched out into the world of fiction with his first novel Taking the Fall followed by his second novel Narrowing the Field in 2016.
In 2015 a documentary-style film about Sir Anthony was released and topped the itunes film chart, having been shown in over 200 cinemas across the UK and Ireland. The film was later released on DVD before being shown on BBC 2.
