Phoebe Schecter was the first female NFL coach, is captain of the TEAM GB American football squad and is Sky Sports broadcaster and popular speaker and event host.
In 2018 Phoebe secured her first coaching position with her ground-breaking appointment as coach for the Buffalo Bills.
With dual citizenship, Phoebe has also represented Great Britain in women’s American football and been captain of the team for more than six years.
Phoebe Schecter is currently Women’s Development Officer for British American Football Coaches Association, Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for British American Football Association, and IFAF Athlete Representative for the International Olympic Committee.
Phoebe continues to break new ground as the UK’s foremost female pundit on the NFL as a leading member of the Sky Sports presentation team. She is also a regular guest on talkSPORT and the BBC.
Phoebe Schecter is a popular speaker and event host, talking on diversity, equality and inclusion, and team management as well as drawing on her experiences as a woman in a predominantly male industry.
Phoebe has dual citizenship and at age 22 she moved from Conneticut, where she grew up, to the north of England. She had not previously had any involvement with American football and moved countries for a position working with horses.
She wanted to find a social group and meet friends. She saw an ad on social media for an American football team in Manchester, where she was living. Despite no previous experience, she went for it and tried out and to her surprise made the team. American football soon became the love of her life.
She went on to play American football for the GB national team for 10 years and it was then she started to think about coaching, knowing she couldn’t play forever.
Phoebe Schecter got involved in youth coaching and later at the adult, club and senior level.
Phoebe’s first coaching position was as an Intern at the University of La Verne. Learning what it took to ensure that athletes performed at the peak of their ability, she then secured a role as a Coaching Intern for the Buffalo Bills.
After two other Coaching Interns with Bryant University and Stanford University, Phoebe was selected for another Coaching Intern at Buffalo Bills before becoming the Tight Ends Coach for the team.
She researched the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which is an opportunity for minorities to work with an NFL team, and following a series of tough interviews, Phoebe found herself on the Buffalo Bills coaching staff for the 2018- 2019 season.
Breaking new ground for women in American football, Phoebe was then given the opportunity as the Community & Grassroots Project Manager for NFL UK, an elite football development academy for students aged 16-19, offering a combination of education and football training.
Phoebe is a popular choice as a speaker or host for a variety of events. She has previously spoken Having previously spoken for Visa and Women In Sports.
She covers topics such as diversity, inclusion, female empowerment, team management and shares stories of her journey and experience in a male-dominated world. Phoebe focuses on topics such as diversity and inclusion and team management, amongst sharing stories from her experiences as a woman in a widely male-dominated industry.
