With a love of cars from a very young age, Penny Mallory always wanted to be involved in motorsport in some way. However, her early years were devastated by mental illness and alcoholism. At the age of 14 she left her childhood home and ended up homeless and alone in London.
After three years, and with a lot of determination and resilience, Penny realised she had to take control of her life. So she returned to her love of cars. A chance event allowed her to realise her childhood dream of driving a rally car and she was instantly hooked. She started raising sponsorship and worked her way up the rallying ranks.
After only four years of racing, Penny became National Ladies Champion and went on to become the world’s first woman to compete in the World Rally Car classification. Penny understands how our thinking, and the thinking of others, can affect our personal and professional behaviour.
She was continuously told she was the ‘wrong sex’ and ‘too old’ to rally, but she was determined to prove them wrong. And she did that and more.
With 12 years of rally driving behind her, Penny Mallory became a go-to presenter for a range of high-profile sporting TV shows including Driven (1998-2002), World Rally Championship (1973-), The Used Car Roadshow (2005-2007), Accident Blackspots (2000), Classic Car Club (2005-) and GMTV (1993-2010) amongst others. She also worked as a precision stunt driver for a number of Renault Clio adverts.
Penny’s keynotes are interactive, entertaining and thought-provoking, but most importantly they compel people to take action immediately.
She has an outstanding international reputation and has worked with many blue-chip clients including Airbus, Audi, AutoGlass, BMW, Coca-Cola, Ford, Grand Vision, Honda, HPI, Jaguar, Klesch, Metsec, P&O, Proctor & Gamble, Sony, Telefonica, Tesco, Volkswagen and Waitrose.
Not content with being a super rally driver, her love of sport and fitness expand to running marathons (she ran three in as many days once), various hell runs and triathlons. She has also entered the boxing ring twice, and has successfully completed accents of the north face of Europe’s highest mountain, Mount Elbrus, and Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

AI Needs Mental Toughness: Artificial Intelligence and the Tough Human Touch
Your ‘mental toughness’ is your ability to persevere, maintain focus, and determination in the face of challenges, setbacks, and disruptions. While AI doesn’t possess human emotions or consciousness, both AI and mentally tough people are masters of adaptability. Just as AI algorithms can adjust to new data and scenarios, mentally tough people can roll with the punches and adapt to anything that life throws at them.
Mental toughness can play a crucial role in working with AI, by fostering adaptability, resilience, pressure handling, and dealing with uncertainty and persistence, all of which are essential in today’s changing dynamic landscape. Developing confidence, determination, focus, and resilience will transform performance so people are better able to manage the ambitious deadlines, heavy work load, pressure, relentless setbacks, and stress that we all inevitably face.
In this 45-60 minute talk, Penny delivers an entertaining, interactive, challenging, and transformational insight into how and why you can’t afford to ignore the importance of developing mental toughness when dealing with AI. She will tell her own story about how she built her mental toughness, show how we can all develop our mental toughness, and will challenge the delegates to complete tasks that will immediately transform their approach, attitude, and mindset.

– Organisations with people under extreme pressure to deliver
– Organisations whose people may not be coping well with the stress and pressure of life and work, and are passionate about their employees’ wellbeing

What will the audience learn?
– They will discover the importance of developing mental toughness when under pressure, to deliver an ambitious AI project
– They will be challenged to consider how they approach the human and artificial aspects of adaptability, reliability, and robustness
– They will reconnect with their vision, passion, and purpose of life
– They will learn how to increase their approach to life, character, confidence, grit, optimism, and resilience
– They will be given tasks to immediately increase their mental toughness
– They will discover how to transform personal and business performance by improving wellbeing for themselves and others
