Patrick Foster is a former professional cricketer, insurance broker and schoolteacher whose life was shattered by a pathological gambling addiction that brought him to the verge of taking his own life in March 2018.
Using his experience, he works with schools, companies and individuals, young and old, raising awareness of the dangers of gambling and associated risk-taking behaviours.
By sharing his own story, he hopes to help others identify if they, or someone around them, are experiencing addiction or mental health problems and inspire them to reach out for help.
Patrick Foster is an ambassador for the Mintridge Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport, building resilience and confidence through sport, and creating awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing.
He is the author of the bestselling book Might Bite: The Secret Life of a Gambling Addict, his brutally honest account of over a decade of pathological gambling addiction to recovery and beyond.
Patrick Foster is also proud to be part of the Teen Tips team, working in collaboration and partnership with them as organisation. The Wellbeing Hub complements and consolidates the work that I do in schools brilliantly.
Teen Tips believe in early intervention. By providing those looking after children and young people with access to up-to-date professional advice and practical tools, they are more equipped to deal with the pressures of growing up. Teen Tips draw on the latest research from psychotherapy, psychology, and neuroscience, along with Teen Tips Founder, Alicia Drummond’s experience of working as an adolescent therapist and being a mum.

Thank you for your time yesterday, I have received some really positive feedback today from your session yesterday and we have today sent out the recording of the session to the whole company along with all the information you sent over yesterday. That was a moving and inspiring story as you have clearly turned your life around and it touched a lot of our staff.
Yesterday was one of our highest number of attendees for our lunch and learns which is fantastic. It clearly shows the importance of your message and I am delighted you got it across to such a wide audience.

Patrick Foster’s story is compelling and important. He holds every audience – whether younger pupils, sixth formers or parents – spellbound with the power of the message he conveys. Gambling addiction, and indeed all forms of addiction, are a very real risk for the pupils in our care. I think that we have made great strides in forewarning them and giving them protective factors through hearing his message. Top-notch INSET and PSHE, and a charming person to meet and have around the school for a day.
