Melvin Odoom’s first taste of popular radio broadcasting was with Kiss where he presented Kiss Breakfast followed by Kiss Morning Anthems. Thanks to his chemistry with his two co-presenters, the show won Silver at the 2009 Sony Radio Awards, followed by gold at the same awards in 2012; the show was so popular, it frequently reached over two million listeners a week.
In 2019, the trio moved to BBC Radio 1 where they presented the weekday late-night show, followed by the coveted popular 10:30am – 12:45pm Live Lounge slot.
Melvin is also a popular face on our TV screens as a presenter and guest. With a TV career spanning over two decades, Melvin has worked across channels including BBC, Sky, MTV, Channel 4 and CBBC as an actor, presenter and broadcaster.
He has been a sole presenter and co-presenter for shows including MTV Digs, MTV Music Junkie, Must Be The Music and Got What It Takes. He has co-hosted the BRIT Awards twice, once for MTV in 2010 and then in 2015 for ITV alongside Laura Whitmore the MOBO Awards in 2016, and the 2010 coverage of the BAFTAs alongside Kimberley Walsh.
For two years he was the host of Channel 4’s show Intros, where he introduced the audience to over 25 different artists from Florence and the Machine to Taio Cruz. It was here he started to sharpen his interviewing skills with the likes of Leona Lewis, JLS, Kylie Minogue, Tinchy Stryder and Mumford & Sons. He was also a popular choice as host for the Channel 4 show Lego Masters, as well as BBC’s Sweat the Small Stuff and ITV’s The Xtra Factor.
In 2012, he was part of the hosting team covering the London Olympic games on television, radio and online, with his specialism being the Women’s Basketball Games. In 2016, he presented the New Year’s Eve firework coverage on BBC One, where he interviewed special guest, Robbie Williams.

Before Melvin made it as a broadcaster and presenter, he used to teach dance and drama to children with behavioural issues and also worked at the Froud Community Centre in Newham to help with afterschool clubs. He also took part in his own drama performances and even gave speeches to governors for the youth council. He is now an ambassador to the Prince’s Trust alongside his radio co-host Rickie. They also work closely with Rays of Sunshine, a charity that grants wishes for children with serious or life-limiting illnesses. In 2012, he hosted a concert at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Rochelle Humes. He has also helped at fundraising events for The Prostate Cancer and Breast Cancer Charity.
In 2022, Melvin returned to his alma mater, the University of Bedfordshire, as part of their “An Evening With…” public lecture series. Here, he sat on a panel of students and faculty and spoke about his career, public life and charity work.
“I’m sure there are lots of students at the University who are interested in getting into media, TV and radio, just like I was, and I can’t wait to share my experiences with them – the great people I’ve met, shows I’ve worked on and places my job has taken me. I hope this event will help to inform and inspire the future generation of Bedfordshire graduates.”
In connection with his role as presenter of Lego Masters, Melvin co-hosted the first-ever LEGOCon from Denmark in 2021 alongside YouTuber Michelle Khare. Here he scored exclusive interviews, revealed official upcoming toys and sets, presented backstage access of LEGO Masters, and promoted the AFOL – Adult Fans of Lego, a club which he definitely identifies with.

Having Melvin back at the University for an event such as this one is something we are extremely exited about. Melvin is a wonderful example of what Bedfordshire students can go onto achieve and it will be fascinating to hear from him about his journey to becoming a presenter and personality popular across the nation.
