Encouraging various governments and parliaments to begin the discussion of abolishing their Statute of Limitations on victims reporting sexual crimes, Matthew was invited to speak at the United Nations and a personal audience with Pope Francis. Upon completing his walk, he returned to Strasbourg where he addressed the Council of Europe to encourage this crucial reform across all 47 European nations.

In recognition of his efforts, Matthew was granted an Honorary Doctorate and awarded the prestigious title, ‘Top Scot.’ He recently completed an academic paper, published by the Scottish Government, entitled ‘The quality of silence’. Matthew is now an adviser to ECPAT International in Bangkok and chairs the Global Survivor Forum, which further contributes to the United Nation’s discussions on children’s rights.

Matthew McVarish Theatre and Stage Actor:

On stage, he has starred in David Leddy’s The Last Bordello at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow and the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and Ros Philips’ A Love Song to Lavender Menace at the Edinburgh Lyceum. An established playwright himself, Matthew has had various works performed both in the UK and off-Broadway and has also composed music for Scottish TV and theatre.
