Linda Barker is a British interior designer, TV presenter, and author, best known for her work on home improvement and design shows. She rose to prominence as one of the original presenters of the BBC home improvement show ‘Changing Rooms’ and is known for her interior design expertise.
Changing Rooms was a phenomenal international success both in the UK and further afield. During Linda Barker’s time on the show, it reached its peak of popularity, attracting over 10 million UK viewers per episode.
Since first appearing on Changing Rooms back in 1996, Linda Barker has gone on to have a successful TV career appearing on a number of other programmes relating to interior design, as well as appearing on reality TV including on I’m a Celebrity…Get me Out of Here!
In addition to her television work, Barker has been involved in various design projects with retailers to create home decor and furniture collections, including work with DFS, Curry’s, Graham & Brown, Crown, Hunters Estate Agents and Wren kitchens.
She also has a successful home accessories retail business, Really Linda Barker.
Sharing her expertise and tips on interior design and home improvement, Linda has published over 20 books. She continues to work as a designer in both the private and corporate sectors and has been active in the PR industry where she has designed some elaborate and prestigious product launch events.
Linda studied Fine Art at university and she started her career as a fashion designer before transitioning into interior design and television presenting. Her style often involves designs that combine both traditional and contemporary features, creating visually stunning and functional spaces.
She was a presenter on Changing Rooms from its inception in 1996 and continued until 2004, becoming a huge success and a household name in the UK. The show involved two sets of homeowners swapping houses for a limited budget to redecorate a room with the help of a designer and a team of amateurs.
Following Changing Rooms, Linda continued to appear on number of other home improvement and lifestyle shows, including House Invaders, Building the Dream, and 60 Minute Makeover.
Linda has had a significant influence on the world of interior design in the UK, inspiring many with her creative ideas, practical solutions, and passion for transforming spaces into beautiful and functional environments.
In April 2021, Linda Barker launched a collection of fabrics, curtains and blinds with home furnishings retailer Terrys under the brand name Linda Barker Home.
Linda writes a regular column for the weekend Daily Express magazine and has authored over 20 books, including: Jazz Up Your Junk with Linda Barker; Trade Secrets; Just Junk: New Look for Old Furniture; and Simply Paint: 50 Creative Ideas for Improving Your Home.
