Kimberley Wilson is a chartered psychologist with a Master’s degree in nutrition.
She is the bestselling author of two books about how food interacts with our mental wellness, and believes that we need to start thinking about mental health in combination with physical health, rather than separately.
She is a former governor of the Tavistock and Portman Mental Health Trust, and also led the therapy service HMP and YOI Holloway, which was then Europe’s largest women’s prison.
She is a regular guest on television shows, radio programmes, and in publications, talking about how nutrition can improve or harm your mental health.

Kimberley Wilson is very passionate about why we need to consider mental health and physical health as a combined issue, rather than separate, which can be dangerous. Her philosophy of ‘Whole Body Mental Health’ is a comprehensive approach to mental health care and mixes evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle facts with psychological therapy.
WRITING
Kimberley is the author of two bestselling books on nutrition and mental health. Her first, How to Build a Healthy Brain (2020) draws upon the latest research to give practical advice on how to protect your brain’s health by making the correct lifestyle choices. This was followed up in 2023 with Unprocessed: How the Food We Eat is Fuelling Our Mental Health Crisis, and looks at the new research, as well as her own experiences, to reveal the vital role that nutrition has on the brain, from how food a pregnant woman eats can influence the size of her baby’s brain, to why hunger makes you mean.
She has also contributed articles to publications including the BBC Science Focus Magazine, and Vogue, on topics such as using food to improve your mood, prison food and inmate violence, cancel culture and mental health, psychological illness, diet and nutrition, explicit videos, trigger warnings, superstition, selfies, and self-care.
MEDIA
Passionate about how psychology and nutrition can transform lives, Kimberley is often heard on our television screens and radios, demystifying the theories and giving the information into the hands of the people who need it most.
She is the co-host of the Made of Stronger Stuff podcast alongside Dr Xand van Tulleken on BBC Radio 4, looking at various parts of the human body and what they can tell us about our capacity for change.
She has also appeared on Radio 4’s One Dish, ITV’s Lorraine, and was the featured mental health expert on Channel 4 documentaries throughout the Covid pandemic. What may come as a surprise to some, is that she was on our television screens in the fourth series of The Great British Bake Off, where she made the final!
I found Kimberley very easy to work with and thought her content was interesting and relevant.

A powerful book that breaks down the dangerous beliefs that food is just fuel and delivers an important message we can all get behind – eat for your body and your brain! With a mental health crisis on our hands and over 50% of our diets coming from UPFs the evidence Kimberley presents in this book will change lives and hopefully policy.
Professor Tim Spector
Finally, a book that puts the brain at the centre of the health conversation, where it belongs.
