Katie Prescott is a familiar writer and voice to millions as The Times Technology Business Editor and, before that, a Business Presenter for Radio 4’s Today Programme and a Business Correspondent across BBC News.
She was a business correspondent across a number of platforms including television, radio, websites and social media.
Katie has presented as far and wide as Tanzania to Rwanda, Northern Ireland to Russia, China to the USA – where she worked for the BBC’s New York Bureau.
She is also a confident conference moderator, event host and keynote speaker.
Katie Prescott’s career all started thanks to ‘dragon’ Peter Jones. As a new graduate, Katie started working at a London start-up magazine which included an interview with the investor, as well as a job offer from him. She worked as his executive assistant for him for three years, working alongside some of his prior investments including Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae sauce, and her interest in business news was ignited. After studying for a Masters in journalism, she joined the BBC as a junior researcher.
Soon working her way up the ranks, she became the Today programme’s business presenter, as well as a BBC business correspondent. Whilst at the BBC she covered topics including changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the European debt crisis, new technology, sustainability and climate change, the furlough scheme, inflation figures, the budget and Government statements, unemployment figures, and energy prices.

Katie reports on the dynamic changes across the tech sector and its impact on business and our everyday lives, particularly in relation to Artificial Intelligence. Awarded Tech Commentator of the year at the UK Tech Awards, she’s a weekly columnist for the newspaper’s award-winning business section and hosts some of the major events staged by The Times.
Alongside The Sunday Times’ West Coast Correspondent, Danny Fortson, Katie hosts The Times Tech podcast. Each week sees a fresh interview with pioneers in tech, from the brightest start-ups to the tech giants, as Katie and Danny chronicle the AI revolution. Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Sam Altman at OpenAI are just some of the senior tech leaders she has spoken to.
She is also an acclaimed author, receiving glowing reviews for her Amazon best-selling book The Curious Case of Mike Lynch. Published in 2025 it details the extraordinary life and tragic death of one of the UK’s most prominent tech entrepreneurs.
