Holly Walsh is a BAFTA award-winning comedian, writer, actress, producer and director.
The co-creator of the popular BBC sitcom Motherland (2016-2022), Holly and her co-writers have been nominated for awards, including the 2017 Royal Television Society Award, the 2018 British Screenwriters’ Awards, and the 2021 International Emmy Award.

Holly Walsh was initially interested in the art world, studying Art History at Cambridge University before working in art galleries in London. She attended comedy writing classes in the evenings before switching full-time to comedy in 2006. She would go on to write for Jo Caulfield and Frank Skinner, and for The Charlotte Church Show, That Mitchell and Webb Sound, and The News Quiz.
A popular comedian in her own right, she started selling out venues, including the Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her talent was soon awarded, winning the Chortle Award for Best Newcomer in 2008. She was also nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2011 Edinburgh Comedy Awards. She was a finalist at the 2006 Funny Women and the So You Think You’re Funny competitions and the 2007 Hackney Empire New Act of the Year. She also co-founded the comic film night, Popcorn Comedy, and Happy Mondays comedy night.
Holly can often be seen as a guest on entertainment programmes, including Live at the Apollo (2016), QI (2016-2022), Grayson’s Art Club (2021), Richard Osman’s House of Games (2019-2020), Room 101 (2018), Mock the Week (2009-2016), 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (2015-2017), Celebrity Mastermind (2012), and Pointless Celebrities (2017).
She has also appeared on radio programmes such as Just a Minute (2014-2023), The Unbelievable Truth (2014-2022), The Now Show (2009-2014), The News Quiz (2009-2017) and Charlie Brooker’s So Wrong It’s Right (2010-2011), as well as contributing to podcast Answer Me This!
As well as her stand-up comedy and TV appearances, Holly is a very skilled and proficient writer for numerous popular television shows, including Motherland (2016-2022), The Other One (2020-2022), Dead Boss (2012), Crackanory (2013-2015), The Wall (2008), and Bad Management (2013), as well as contributing to The News Quiz, Broken Arts, and It’s That Jo Caulfield Again.
Holly makes for a great comedic act for any event with her quick wit, skilfully crafted one-liners, and down-to-earth nature.
