Otherwise known as The Urban Birder, David Lindo is a naturalist, writer, broadcaster, speaker, photographer, wildlife tour leader, and educator. He aims to encourage people in towns and cities to connect to nature through TV appearances, articles, and talks.
BBC Wildlife Magazine named him one of the most influential people in wildlife.
David was a lover of birds right from the age of three and now travels the world – from London to New York, Nairobi to Riga, and Sao Paolo to Bangkok – telling people about the fantastic urban wildlife on their doorstep.
David Lindo has appeared on several television programmes, including Sunday Brunch, Countryfile, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, The One Show, and on CBS News as The Urban Birder. He has contributed to The Guardian, Waterlife Magazine, Bird Watching Magazine, and Wild Travel Magazine. He is also a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s Tweet of the Day, discussing bird species such as ospreys, European robins, and the common kestrel.

David is the founder of the Tower 42 Bird Study Group; In 2015, they launched a campaign to find Britain’s national bird; an impressive 224,000 people voted, with the robin being declared the winner, with the barn owl and common blackbirds as runners-up. He is also a Fellow of the International League of Conservation Writers, a member of the British Travel Writers Guild, vice-president of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, and a fellow of the International League of Conservation Writers.
David’s expertise in the natural world has seen him presented with several accolades, including being named the 7th most influential person in wildlife by BBC Wildlife Magazine, winning the HH Bloomer Award 2021 from the Linnean Society of London, and gaining a shortlist place for the 2020 Professional Publishers Association Columnist of the Year Award.
David is a proud ambassador for Birding For All, British Hedgehog Preservation Society, CJ Wildlife, Columbia Bird Fair, Conservation Without Borders, EcoNoja Feria International, Leica Birding, London Wildlife Trust, Lundy Island, Naturehood, OM System, Peak Design, Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory, and Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society.
David Lindo is an inspirational and motivational speaker, able to provide after-dinner and keynote speeches, host awards evenings, and make guest appearances at festivals and other industry events. He also provides wellbeing and teambuilding seminars, urban birding workshops, and urban nature consultancy work.
He is also a passionate diversity and inclusion advisor, especially when it comes to the diversity of people enjoying nature. He has advised the London Wildlife Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the UK Government, and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust on this topic.
