David Garrido is an English and Spanish speaking sports broadcaster with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. He is a regular face on Sky Sports News, with a particular interest in Grand Prix, tennis, cricket, and football, and is one of the UK’s most recognisable TV sports presenters.

As an Oxford undergraduate studying French and German, David’s broadcasting career started at student radio station Oxygen FM (1997-2001), where he soon became their sports editor. He burst onto the professional sports scene in 2000 after winning the BBC Talent competition, which earnt him a six-month contract with BBC Sport.
David initially worked for a number of BBC radio networks, before settling down in 2003 at Radio 1 where he was Newsbeat’s (1973-) sports reporter for nearly eight years. Whilst at BBC Radio 1, David was the go-to man for some of the television channel’s flagship football programmes such as Match of the Day (1964-), Football Focus (2001-), and Final Score (1958-), as well as reporting for BBC News Channel and BBC World News.
David is an all-rounder in regard to the sports he works with. As well as reporting on local sporting results on the television and the radio, David has reported on global events, including the European Football Championship, Football World Cups, Champions League finals, Ashes, Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Wimbledon. David was the choice commentator for the 2006 Wimbledon and Australian Open tennis championships, as well as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
In 2011, David moved from BBC to Sky and quickly established himself amongst the presenting team at Sky Sports News. Once Sky secured the rights for Formula 1 in 2012, David became the anchor for the channel, broadcasting in Melbourne, Monaco, and Silverstone, whilst also presenting shows for the F1 channel itself. After a year at Sky, David became involved in presenting Deadline Day (2002-), a programme where fans find out which football players their club will sign or sell before the transfer window closes. David enjoys the unpredictability of deadline day and it is one of his favourite working environments, requiring precise preparation, concentration, and improvision, as well as a good sense of humour and energy.
Not content with just watching and reporting on sporting events, David has delved deeper into his passions and has produced, presented, and narrated his own documentaries. His first – Gibraltar: No Rock Unturned – came about in 2014 which chartered the fortunes of the Gibraltar national football team as they were embarked into UEFA and embarked upon their first qualification campaign for Euro 2016. Keeping with this Spanish football theme, David presented Sky’s live LaLiga coverage between 2016 and 2018.
David is a go-to interviewer in the world of sport and has talked with some of the biggest names, such as footballers David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo, Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, and tennis players Andy Murray and Serena Williams. He has the ability to talk to revered clientele in a warm and friendly way.

David is passionate about helping charities; he has participated in a charity badminton match, is a patron for Sheffield Wednesday football club where he helps out at community-based events, is a champion of iStreetChild, and has hosted a variety of award ceremonies and live events for those charities.
