Alex Scott is a former professional footballer, and current pundit and presenter.
The former Arsenal captain and England centurion is the co-host of Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday, a well-regarded pundit for BBC and Sky Sports, a regular on BBC’s Match of the Day, and ambassador for Nike and Mastercard.
Alex Scott signed with Arsenal at age 8 and stayed with the team for most of her career.
Alex helped the club achieve a domestic double of the FA Women’s Cup and the FA Women’s Premier League. She was also a key figure in the historic quadruple season for Arsenal in which they won all their trophy competitions.
This became the obvious prelude to Alex’s captaincy for the club in the 2014/15 season. While playing for England Alex had the opportunity to travel all over the world to play the game she loves.

Alex Scott signed with Arsenal when she was just eight years old; she would stay with the team until the 2004-05 season, after which she moved to Birmingham City. She only stayed at Birmingham for one year, and returned to Arsenal for the 2005-06 season. At Arsenal, she helped the club to a domestic double of the FA Women’s Premier League, and FA Women’s Cup. She was also a key figure in their historic ‘quadruple’ season in which they won all of their competitions, including the 2006-07 UEFA Women’s Cup.
Upon the creation of the Women’s Professional Soccer league in the US, Alex was assigned to the Chicago Red Stars and then the Boston Breakers, whom she joined in 2009. When the WPS collapsed in 2012, she returned one again to Arsenal. She played her final game for them in 2018.
Alex was also a prominent member of the England international team, first playing at U19 and U21 levels, before making her main debut in 2004. She would go on to play in the UEFA Women’s Championships and the FIFA Women’s World Cups.
In 2012, she was named in the Great Britain squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, finishing in fifth place.
She retired from international football in 2017 with the honour of being the second most capped England player at the time, with 140 appearances.
Since her retirement, Alex has begun a successful broadcasting career and has quickly become renowned for her insights into the game and sharp punditry skills.
She has regularly presented segments for Football Focus (2011-15), Match of the Day (2016-25), and Final Score (2016-24). She is also the co-host of Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday, and on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday. She made waves as the first female to commentate for the BBC at a Men’s World Cup. She has also co-hosted UNICEF’s Soccer Aid since 2020.
Scott has spoken out repeatedly about the sexist abuse she frequently receives on social media because of her role as a football pundit.
Away from the world of football, Alex has presented The One Show (2018-), Children in Need 2018-), BBC Sports Personality of the Year (2020-21), Comic Relief and Sports Relief.
She has featured on Sunday Brunch (2024), Loose Women (2023), The Graham Norton Show (2022), A Question of Sport (2016-18), Who Do You Think You Are (2021), and A League Of Their Own (2016-19).
In 2016, Alex took part in Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, which she went on to win. Alex won the Sports Relief edition of Strictly Come Dancing in 2018; she returned to the ballroom the following year, partnering up with Neil Jones, finishing in fifth place.
Along with her achievements in broadcasting, Alex has undertaken some exciting commercial and ambassadorial opportunities. Since retiring, she has worked with brands including Barclaycard, Cadbury’s, Mastercard, and Nike.
In 2022, she released her book How (Not) To Be Strong, in which she shared the lessons that have shaped her, from confronting the legacy of a tumultuous childhood to the truth behind the glamorous world of football.
Alex is also heavily involved in charitable projects, working with Premier League Communities and launching the Sky Ocean Rescue and Premier League Plastic Pollution Challenge. She has also been heavily involved with UNICEF, travelling to countries far and wide to see the work that the charity supports.
In 2011, Scott founded the Alex Scott Academy in partnership with Kingston College and Puma, for female footballers aged 16–19 years. This represented the first such academy in the UK and was intended to highlight the growth of the women’s game.
Alex wanted to create an academy system that not only focused on training but also focused on working towards qualifications, providing players with an unrivalled calibre of training, skill development and match play all while promoting excellence in the classroom as well.
