Why Celebrate Women in Engineering Day?

International Women in Engineering Day falls on the 23rd of June every year. As of 2022, only 14.5% of UK engineers were women, a figure that has risen just over 4% in the previous 12 years.

International Women in Engineering Day aims to promote their achievements, promote the importance of a diverse workforce, and encourage the next generation of women into STEM careers.

In combination with The Women’s Engineering Society, International Women in Engineering Day aims to combine government, education and corporate engineering institutions to raise the profile of a career in engineering as an exciting choice for women. They believe employers and educational establishments should take more responsibility for providing positive role models to young people, and the best way to do this is to increase the number of females in the industry.
