Phil is a superb leadership speaker awarded the MBE for services to business but he’s donning his cycling helmet to support his other great passion cycling this weekend.
On Saturday, 7 day distance world record holder James Golding and I set out from Pembrey Park in Wales to ride every stage of the Tour of Britain, one day ahead of the race.
Our aim is to raise £50,000 for the Dave Rayner Fund who provide financial support for upcoming bike racers to live abroad and follow their dream of becoming professional.
Around 5% of Dave Rayner funded riders go on to reach the World Tour racing for teams like Sky, however, the journey there is tough requiring many years of discipline, training and building skills/experience. Riders previously funded include Hannah Barnes, Adam Yates, Ian Stannard and Nikki Brammeier.
Without this vital funding early in their careers, their chances of success narrows significantly. Seeing Geraint Thomas recent win the yellow jersey at the Tour de France demonstrates what talent we have here in the UK. More can be found about the Dave Rayner fund at www.daveraynerfund.co.uk
Anyone wanting to donate or support our future cycling talent is welcomed at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/TOB1DA.
