Why Acknowledge World Menopause Day?

World Menopause Day is an awareness day held every year on the 18th of October – held within World Menopause Month. The aim is to raise awareness of peri-menopause and menopause and support those suffering from physical and/or mental side effects.

Since its inception in 2009, World Menopause Day has covered many themes including cognition, mood, memory, bone health, fertility, hormones, sexual well-being, heart health, weight and medication.

Facts!

  • There are roughly 4 million women in the UK workforce aged 45-55 – the prime age for menopause.
  • 50% of women had not taken on additional responsibilities at work due to the menopause
  • 1 in 4 women consider leaving their jobs because of the menopause
  • 10% of women actually leave their jobs because of the menopause
  • The average length of menopause from the initial symptom to the final stages is 4 years but can last for 10

Whilst it is spoken about more in mainstream media, peri-menopause and menopause are still seen as a sort of taboo subject, leading to thousands of women suffering in silence. At Great British Speakers, we have a wide range of female speakers, willing to share their stories and provide helpful ways that businesses can support their staff.

Featured Speakers – Dr Nighat Arif | superb World Menopause Day Speakers

As an outreach clinician, she often meets with other clinicians such as doctors, nurses and community teams, as well as residents, to discuss the unmet health needs of the female BAME community, who are less likely to engage with health professionals.  She also hosts regular women’s health workshops where women can come together to express their concerns regarding female health issues, from gynaecological issues, to parenthood & fertility, and menopause.
