International Women in Engineering Day Speakers

Why Celebrate International Women in Engineering Day?

International Women in Engineering Day began in the UK in 2014 and falls on the 23rd of June every year. It has covered themes including inventors and their inventions and our engineering heroes. As of 2022, only 14.5% of UK engineers were women, a figure that has risen just over 4% in the previous 12 years.

International Women in Engineering Day aims to promote their achievements, promote the importance of a diverse workforce, and encourage the next generation of women into STEM careers.

In combination with The Women’s Engineering Society, International Women in Engineering Day aims to combine government, education and corporate engineering institutions to raise the profile of a career in engineering as an exciting choice for women.

All businesses, employers and employees are responsible for providing positive role models to young people, and the best way to do this is to increase the number of females in the industry.

Facts!

– The percentage of female engineers is increasing. Between 2016 and 2022, the number rose by almost a quarter of a million to just over 906,000.

– Females make up over 50% of the engineering workforce in countries such as Latvia and Norway.

– Women make up 20% of engineering graduates, but nearly 40% of these do not enter the profession

Find an Inspirational Female Speaker for Women in Engineering Day

 At Great British Speakers, we are proud to be working alongside a team of professional female STEM speakers, who are often booked by engineering companies and educational establishments to talk about the benefit of gender equality in the industry and to inspire the next generation of women in STEM.

Our female STEM speakers can help by;

– Mentoring young women who are looking to join the industry

– Encouraging women to apply for leadership positions in STEM

– Promoting the range of careers available, including electrical engineering, structural engineering and statistician

– Showcasing positive STEM role models and their successes

By promoting a gender-inclusive workforce, the industry as a whole would benefit from a range of viewpoints, skills and abilities. When there is balance in the workplace, there is trust, opportunity, and productivity.

So, if you’re promoting women in engineering, the Great British Speakers team is here to help.
