Steven Frayne – the artist formally known as Dynamo – is one of the world’s most celebrated magicians, renowned for redefining modern magic. His groundbreaking TV series Magician Impossible captivated over 250 million viewers across 193 countries, cementing his place as a global phenomenon.
His latest Sky Max special Dynamo is Dead drew huge viewing figures. And whilst he may have put ‘Dynamo’ to bed, he continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
His past magic tricks include walking on the River Thames, as well as jaw-dropping celebrity illusions. His innovate approach to magic blends storytelling with mind-blowing creativity.
In 2025, he launched “Steven Frayne – Up Close and Magical”, a brand new live show that completely sold out it’s London performance run. Bold, intimate, and packed with brand new magic, the show drew a host of famous fans, including Cara Delevingne, Jason Statham, Usher, Malala Yousafzai, and Kate Beckinsale.
After facing severe health challenges from Crohn’s disease, he is focussing on his health and using magic to connect with people and share joy.
Known for many years as Dynamo, Steven Frayne is one of the most recognisable figures in global entertainment. Since first bursting onto the scene 20+ years ago, his pioneering approach to modern magic has captivated global audiences.
He skyrocketed to fame with his series Dynamo: Magician Impossible, dazzling over 250 million viewers with tricks including defying gravity and making objects materialise from his skin. Given a loan from the Prince’s Trust in 2003, Steven was able to start his business and invest in equipment; he then moved to London in 2004 to start his career in magic. Within just a year he had created footage with names such as Snoop Dogg, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Coldplay.
He has performed in many television specials, including Dynamo’s Easte of Mind, Dynamo Revealed, and Dynamo A-Z.
In 2023, Steven hosted the programme Dynamo is Dead, a special in which he interviewed celebrities in preparation for his premature burial. Holding conversations about mental health, he welcomed guests such as Demi Lovato, Dave Chapelle, and Pete Davidson. Following the conversations, he was then buried alive without a coffin for nearly three minutes. He followed this up in 2024 with Miracles, a 90-minute special for Sky Max which saw him performing street magic up and down the country.

He has appeared on a range of television programmes as Dynamo and as Steven Frayne, including Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Richard & Judy, Fatherhood, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Young Apprentice, Strictly Come Dancing, and The Grand Tour.
His media appearances have regularly involved magic stunts with celebrities including Matt Lucas, David Coulthard, Suki Waterhouse, Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and One Direction.
In 2012, Steven released his book Nothing Is Impossible: The Real-Life Adventures of a Street Magician, which reveals how he has made the impossible possible, and what it takes to pull off the greatest stunts ever seen.
He followed this up in 2017 with Dynamo: The Book of Secrets, in which he shows readers how they can perform magic themselves.
Steven has worked with several charities throughout his career, including appearing on Children in Need, Comic Relief, and Sport Relief.
In 2016 he worked on a film for Theirworld (a children’s charity) titled Safe Schools: Children Can No Longer Wait and was then named an ambassador the following year. He has since worked with them to help promote the education of Syrian refugee children, and has travelled the world and to the United Nations to meet world leaders.
