Steven swiftly progressed through the age groups and particularly excelled in the Pursuit event. He was crowned the European Under-23 Team Pursuit Champion in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Travelling to Beijing as a reserve in the Individual Pursuit, he was told he would be racing with 48 hours’ notice. Steven broke his PB by a massive 11 seconds to take Olympic Bronze. Steven’s fast rise continued, he was part of the World-Record breaking squad in Melbourne, at the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2012.
This World Record has broken 3 times in London 2012 alone, ultimately culminating in Steven and the team capturing Gold. At the 2013 UCI Cycling World Championships, he won Silver in the Team Pursuit and followed this up with a Gold at the European Championships.
Steven’s medal haul continued, as he won Silver at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the Team Pursuit. In 2015, Steven won Silver at the UCI Track World Championships in the Team Pursuit.
All of Steven’s efforts in 2016 were focused on defending the Gold he helped to win in London when he took part in the 2016 Olympics in Rio; which they managed whilst setting yet another world record.
Outside of his British Cycling commitments, Steven races on the track for the newly established ‘Team Wiggins’.
Steven was awarded an MBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list for services to Cycling.
