Before his foray into the world of television, Stephen Mulhern’s love was magic. He gained his interest in magic thanks to his father teaching him tricks when he was 11 years old. Every year his family would holiday at Butlin’s and it is there he began to perform in public. When he was just 17, he became the youngest member of the prestigious Magic Circle, which brough about an appearance on long-running television show Blue Peter.
Once he had left school, he created his own magic show called ‘Stephen’s Mega Mad Magic Show’. After unsuccessfully applying to appear on Michael Barrymore’s show My Kind Of People, he appeared on, and won, The Big Big Talent Show, and as a result was invited to take part in the 2017 Royal Variety Performance.
Since then, he has presented his magic tricks on the Disney Channel and CITV on Saturday Showdown, as well as on Tricky TV, The Slammer (2006) and Magic Numbers (2010). In 2005, he even created and presented his own show on Channel 4 called Freaky.
These appearances doing his magic saw him join Heart radio in 2012, co-presenting the Sunday breakfast show with Emma Willis. He also regularly sits in for Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on the Heart London Breakfast show. In 2021, he began presenting on Virgin Radio UK, covering Graham Norton on the weekend morning slot; he also presented a week of the Chris Evans Breakfast Show and has since returned to cover Chris Evans when needed.
